1,3-Propanediol
(1,3-PDO) has numerous applications in the synthesis of
polymers and other organic chemicals, such as, in carpet
and other textile fibers. It is currently manufactured by
chemical synthetic processes using petroleum derivatives,
such as acrolein or ethylene. One potential method is via
the fermentation of glycerol or glucose. At the present,
FRIPP is making efforts to develop this fermentation
technique for producing 1,3-Propanediol.
Biodesulfurization
(BDS) is a process that removes sulfur from fossil fuels
using a series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. As
environment regulations tighten on sulfur emissions, the
amount of sulfur in petroleum products becomes an
important issue. Therefore, efficient techniques of
desulfurization are required. Recent years, FRIPP is
working in biocatalytic desulfurization of petroleum
distillates.
