Abstract
¡¡This paper gives a brief introduction on development
of hydrofining technologies of FRIPP. It is centered
on the progress of technologies and the related
catalysts in the last ten years, including
pre-hydrofining for reforming feeds, hydrofining for
FCC gasoline, kerosene and diesel, and pretreating for
FCC feed.

DEVELOPMENT
AND COMMERCIAL APLLICATION OF RESIDUE HYDROTREATING
TECHNOLOGY

Abstract
¡¡In order to meet the demands for processing sour
residue and poor quality residue, FRIPP has developed
a series of catalysts, FZC for hydrotreating vacuum
and atmospheric residua. The catalysts have been
commercially used in the VRDS unit with capacity of
840kt/a in Qilu Petrochemical Company, and the ARDS
unit with capacity of 2Mt/a in Dalian West Pacific
Petrochemical Compony.The performance of the catalysts
has proved to be about equal to that of the advanced
foreign ones. In view of the above-achievements, FRIPP
has developed a complete set of S-RHT echnology for
residue hydrotreating with the cooperation of design
and construction institutes as well as petrochemical
enterprises. Up to 111 patents have been applied both
at home country and abroad, and many achievements have
been awarded as prizes of the state or ministerial (or
provincial) grade. FRIPP has developed the key
technology with proprietary intellectual property for
processing sour crude oils. S-RHT commercial unit with
capacity of 2Mt/a was constructed and put into
operation in December,1995, and experienced a two-year
run length. The results of commercial application show
that R-SHT unit has reasonable design and stable
operation, and performance of the catalysts meet the
design targets with remarkable economic and social
benefits.

cause for industrial pollution. In order to protect
the environment, and to keep a sustained and stable
growth of the national economy, it is necessary to
utilize resources scientifically and reasonably, and
seek for optimum utilization and regeneration of the
resources. Combing resource utilization with the
environmental protection, the present situation and
the future trend of technical development are
discussed about some important resources (water, oil
and gas, sulfur resource) concerning refining
industry.

Abstract
¡¡The main achievements in R&D of petroleum asphalts
obtained by FRIPP are presented in this paper,
including the development and application of paving
asphalt, modified asphalt, construction asphalt,
color-bind materials and hydraulic asphalt and so on .
During many years of R&D activities on petroleum
asphalts, FRIPP has kept a close look at the
development of asphalt and the asphalt market, and was
the first one to develop paving asphalt products for
the express way and many other asphalt products in
China. FRIPP has also made great contribution to the
upgrading of petroleum asphalt products and the
development for refiners in China.
