HYDROCRACKING
CATALYSTS FOR PRODUCING LIGHT FRACTIONS
Jiang
Guangan Bei Yaoming Lan Ling¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡The
development and applications of several generations of
hydrocracking catalysts for mainly producing light
fractions, developed by FRIPP (Fushun Research
Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals) are
introduced in this paper. Catalyst 3825, the first
generation, has been successfully commercialized in
many domestic hydrocracking units since 1990,
exhibiting higher activity and good stability.
Catalyst 3905, the second generation, is characterized
by higher activity and selectivity for heavy naphtha,
good nitrogen tolerance, lower gas yield and higher C5+
yield, compared with 3825. And Catalyst 3905 can
experience a stable operation for refined oil with
nitrogen content of 15-20m
g/g. The test results in pilot-plant using 3955, the
third generation of catalysts, show that while keeping
similar properties and distribution of the product,
the reaction temperature is 7-9¡æ
lower, compared with that using Catalyst 3825.
Catalyst 3955 shows stable operation by using refined
oil with nitrogen content up to 20-30m g/g. Catalyst
FC-24, the fourth generation, newly developed by
FRIPP, has an increase in selectivity for heavy
naphtha by 2-3% and increase of liquid yield by 1-2%
with a decrease in hydrogen consumption while keeping
activity similar to that using 3955.

Abstract
¡¡Flexible
hydrocracking catalysts have the characteristics to
change product distribution for flexibly producing
naphtha and middle distillates by adjusting the
operating conditions (temperature) appropriately for
refiners to produce various fuel products to meet the
needs of market. The development of flexible
hydrocracking catalysts has attracted more and more
attention and they may have wider application in the
future.

Chen
Song Wang Jifeng Gu Mingdi Zhang Xiaoping¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡In
order to meet the increasing demands for middle
distillates, FRIPP has developed a series of
hydrocracking catalysts with high mid-barrel
selectivity, from the initially developed catalyst,
3901, followed by the catalysts 3974, FC-20, FC-26 and
FC-40. Especially Catalyst 3974 has been extended to
the market as a catalyst with high mid-barrel
selectivity, and it has been successfully
commercialized in the hydrocracking units of Zhenhai
and Maoming Petrochemical Co. with the capacity of
1.2Mt/a and 0.8 Mt/a, respectively, which has created
great profits for the refiners.

technology developed by FRIPP suitable for producing
high quality diesel oil with low solidification point
from inferior feeds. The process combines the features
of hydrotreating and hydrodewaxing, and is
characterized by high hydrofining and dewaxing
activity, flexible feedstocks and target product,
simple process, as well as high yields of diesel oil.
It has been successfully used in Harbin Refinery.

Fang
Xiangchen Zhao Yuzhuo Lan Ling Yin Enjie¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡This
paper introduces the development and commercial
application of MCI technique for greatly improving
cetane number of diesels under medium pressure, as
well as the study on producing diesel oils with
low-sulfur and low-aromatic content by using MCI
process. The commercial results obtained from
different scale units with MCI technique show that the
improvement of diesel cetane number is over 10 units,
diesel yield is more than 95% and the sulfur content
of product is below 50¦Ìg/g,
being a good repetition of the laboratory teats. MCI
technique has also been used to reduce aromatics
content to 25% to produce clean diesel oil.

¡¡The
results of preparing VHVI and HVI lubricant bases from
hydrocracker tail oil and solvent
refining-hydrotreated VGO, using catalyst (FIDW) and
its related technology of hydroisodewaxing and
isodewaxing, are introduced in this paper. Compared
with the technology of solvent dewaxing and catalytic
dewaxing, the technology of isodewaxing is
characterized by higher yield, higher viscosity index
and lower pour point for the prepared lubricant bases.
The test results for preparing food-grade white oil
from hydrocracker tail oil using isodewaxing process
and the results of 2000-hour stability test using
FIDW-1 isodewaxing catalyst are also introduced.
