Abstract
¡¡This
paper introduces the development of a new catalyst for
residue hydrodenitrogenation (HDN). The test results
on the catalysts both in laboratory and the trial
production show that the new catalysts has good HDN
activity and high activity stability. Besides, its
simplified manufacturing procedures, and hence the
lower cost make the catalyst more competitive.

Abstract
¡¡This
paper introduces the basic design and preparation
rules of hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalyst. In
laboratory tests, the effects of preparation methods
and pore structure of the support, the addition of
promoters on the catalyst performance were studied.
The results showed that the support prepared by the
method mentioned in this paper was characterized by
large pore volume, high surface area and narrow pore
size distribution. The new generation HDS catalysts
have good activity stability.

STUDY
OF RESIDUE FIXED-BED HYDROTREATING TECHNOLOGY
Hu
Changlu¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡Achievements
of FRIPP in the last few years, in R&D of complete
sets of residue fixed-bed hydrotreating catalysts and
related technologies, are introduced in this paper.
For catalysts research, up to now, four types of
catalysts with 28 shop signs for vacuum residue
hydrotreating, three types of catalysts with five shop
signs for atmospheric residue hydrotreating, as well
as two guard catalysts with shop signs for the up-flow
residue hydrotreating, have been developed
successfully. For research of technologies, the
processes of atmospheric residue hydrotreating and
S-RHT (vacuum residue hydrotreating) have been
developed and applied in a S-RHT unit with a capacity
of 2.0Mt/a in Maoming Petrochemical Company. This unit
was constructed and put into operation in December,
1999. The results of commercial application showed
that the R-SHT catalysts have high activity and the
product quality, according with the designing
requirements. The technology has attained advanced
world level.

STUDY
OF GUARD CATALYST FOR RESIDUE OIL HYDROTREATING BY
USING UP-FLOW-REACTOR AND RELATED TECHNOLOGY
Li
Wenru¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡This
article introduces results obtained by FRIPP on the
development of residue guard catalyst used in the
up-flow reactor and the related technology. In the
model test at normal temperature, the effect of model
feedstock and gas flow state on the expanding ratio of
the catalyst bed was studied. In the model test at
high temperature, using Middle-East residue oil as
feedstock, the effect of temperature and space
velocity on removal of impurity was investigated. The
test results obtained at normal temperature indicated
that the expanding ratio of the catalyst bed could be
controlled to below 10%; while the test results
obtained at high temperature indicated that reactions
of demetallization and desulfurization were the major
reactions in the up-flow-reactor, therefore the
fixed-bed reactor at backward position was protected.

ON HYDROTREATING VACUUM RESIDUE BLENDED BY CRACKED GAS
OIL
Han
Zhaoming¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡Hydrotreating
technology, using Gudao VR and VR blended with coker
gas oil (CGO) as feedstock, was studied in the pilot
plant called R3. The hydrotreated products obtained
from various test conditions were characterized and
the results were compared. Also the activity of
impurity removal and residue conversion were
completely investigated. The test results showed that
the FZC series of catalysts demonstrated stable
activity when treating Gudao VR blended with CGO, and
the product properties were better than that of Gudao
VGO only under the same test conditions. The
hydrotreated products meet the demands for industrial
production. The text results showed that this kind of
technology is a key way for the domestic coastal
refineries that intend to process vacuum residue on a
large amount and increase the yield of light oil
products.

Abstract
¡¡The
catalysts and their use in residue slurry
hydrocracking process are described. These catalysts
can inhibit coke formation in the process that
converts bitumen or residue into lighter distillates.
When used to treat atmospheric residua and vacuum
residua obtained from Gudao, Liaohe, Xinjiang, and
Arabia, the distillate£¨<538¡æ£©yield
of 60%~90% was obtained on single pass£¬with
toluene insoluble being less than 1%.

RESEARCH
OF RESIDUUM SLURRY HYDROCONVERSION PROCESS
Wang
Jun Li Yuansheng Zhang Zhongqing Han Chongren¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡The
process of residue hydroconversion using slurry-bed,
developed by Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum
and Petrochemicals (FRIPP) of SINOPEC is described. In
the process, total liquid yields of <500¡æ
distillates are about 70~90m% with less than 1.0 m%
coke when processing atmosphere residua, and about
60~80m% when processing vacuum residua. The
integration of the slurry process with other refining
processes can increase the total liquid yields and
obtain wide distribution of products, depending on the
market demand, to improve the overall economic
benefits of the refinery.

STUDY
OF GROUP TYPES IN RESIDUE HYDROTREATING BY MS
Ling
Fengxiang Wang Shaojun Qian Maiyuan¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Abstract
¡¡With
the development of refining technologies, the process
of residue treatment has become more and more
important. Analysis of types of functional groups by
using MS (mass spectrometry) is a very useful
analytical technique that provides information about
the chemical composition of petroleum samples. This
paper describes a method for separately determining
three types of functional groups: saturated
hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds and resins in
fractions from residue by using EIMS and FDMS
techniques. The asphaltenes in the residue samples
were precipitated using n-heptane. The heptane-soluble
components were further fractionated into saturates,
aromatics and resins on the alumina/silica gel column.
Then each fraction was analyzed on a VG Autospec MS.
The mass spectrometric data were processed using
methods of type of functional groups. The relative
abundance of each characteristic peak was calculated,
and each summation of peaks indicates the related
component. It is clearly observed that after treated
in a 60-liter pilot plant, the saturated constituents
of residue increase, while the contents of aromatics
and resin decrease. This experimental approach
provides a useful method for characterizing residue
and its derivatives by EIMS and FDMS, which is helpful
for developing residue processing catalyst and
technology.
